BRAC Bank has been named the only Bangladeshi lender in Forbes’ inaugural World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 ranking, placing 73rd among lower mid-size banks globally.
Published on September 9, the ranking was compiled by Forbes in partnership with market research and data company Statista. It evaluated 500 banks across 89 countries based on financial performance and balance-sheet strength.
BRAC Bank was placed in Tier 5, covering banks with assets between $10 billion and $20 billion. The assessment considered four areas: profitability, growth and earnings quality, capital and funding resilience, and asset quality and efficiency.
According to the reported figures, BRAC Bank’s consolidated return on assets stood at 1.67% in June 2026, while its return on equity was 21.52%. Its non-performing loan ratio stood at 2.03% during the first half of the year.
The bank also reported a 57% year-on-year increase in net profit to Tk 1,423 crore for the six months ended June 2026. Its customer deposits subsequently crossed Tk 1 lakh crore by the end of August.
Unlike Forbes’ earlier banking rankings, which relied heavily on customer surveys, the 2026 ranking focused on objective financial data. The methodology drew on sources including S&P Capital IQ, desk research and information submitted by participating banks.
BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan described the recognition as a meaningful milestone for the bank and Bangladesh.
