DHAKA, September 16, 2026 — China’s Julong Group has expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh’s shipbuilding sector and building modern vessels in the country.
Julong Group Chairman Bin Wang discussed the proposal with State Minister for Shipping Md Razib Ahsan at the latter’s office on September 16. The meeting focused on modern vessel construction and the development of Bangladesh’s maritime sector.
Wang said the company wants to use Bangladesh’s geographical position and skilled workforce to build different types of modern ships and vessels. According to him, the group’s long-term plan is to meet domestic demand with internationally standard vessels produced in Bangladesh and eventually export them to other countries.
Welcoming the proposal, Ahsan said the government is working to create a business-friendly environment for foreign investors. He also assured the group of policy and administrative support for the proposed shipbuilding initiative.
If the investment moves forward, it could create opportunities for greater foreign participation in Bangladesh’s shipbuilding industry and support the country’s broader maritime manufacturing ambitions. However, details on the proposed investment amount, project location and implementation timeline have not yet been announced.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping were present at the meeting.
